Back from Dallas.
Oh yeah, I forgot to mention: We went to Dallas for Electric Six.
The drive there was really ... well, it wasn't bad until we got about 10 miles outside of Dallas, and then it was like being back in Denver, and Liz and I were having a collective aneurysm. So, because of that, we were about a half hour late.
It got worse when we found our exit, but we turned on the wrong street or the wrong direction, or something wacky. Anyway, we somehow ended up on another interstate and were like "okay, so... this is wrong, as we're heading AWAY from downtown." We finally found the street the venue was on, so we went down that. Then we saw said venue, only to pass it going "okay, with the parking? WTF?" so we circled the block in the most roundabout fashion way possible, almost got lost again, but somehow found or way back.
At this point I was internally freaking out, because we were almost an hour late ("late" being from the time the doors opened), so we made a mad dash towards the venue. It turned out to be alright, though, because the opening band hadn't even come out yet.
The show itself was great. The first act was actually surprisingly not terrible (We are the Fury. Check 'em out), and I actually enjoyed listening to them. There weren't too many people there at this point, so it was alright. After they were done, we went and sat on the couches and said "okay, we don't care about whatever this second band is. If they don't suck, we'll stand up."
I'm glad we didn't stand up. They were AWFUL. Remember how I described Bratz the Movie? Like five scripts mashed into one? Yeah, each song they played was like 5 songs mashed into one. It was really painful to listen, and pretty much everything I know about music was thrown out the window. Their last song consisted of random noise for like 10 minutes (I'm not EVEN exaggerating that number), and then they finished. Seriously, if anyone ever recommends you listen to a band called "The Willowz," don't be their friend any more.
Finally, Electric Six came on. The energy was outstanding, and for the first part people actually tried to be nice and let Liz get up front so she could actually see. Imagine that, people not being dicks at a concert! Well, it was really all moot once they started playing, because there was the moshing, and for every nice guy there were about 10 jerks, so, oh well. We managed to stay reasonably close and actually able to see the band, which was good for Liz. They had a great set, and they were wacky just as I expected them to be.
The only real downfall was the influx of drunk people, who insisted on falling on each other and us and ... swing dancing, or whatever craziness. And then I got smushed between two really huge people, so I had a hard time enjoying myself. I ended up elbowing a couple people, partially accidentally, partially because I was tired of being stepped on. It was good times, except for that.
After the show, we went and had breakfast/dinner/whatever-the-crap at IHOP, and then we crashed at Cain's. It was great seeing Cain again, and he lives with silly nerd boys.
We woke up today, and shot the breeze, talked about stuff, and hilarious homeless adventures.
Then, around noon, we went to visit my cousin, Kathy, whom I haven't seen in like... 10 years or so. Which is sad, because she's totally awesome, and one of my most favorite people in the world. Her husband is really cool, too. I dunno, I guess I forgot how crazy she is (crazy in a good way, mind you), and apparently the squigly wackiness that comes with... well, being me, runs in the family, which I had somehow forgotten as well.
So, we went to California Pizza Kitchen, and talked about nerdy things, and were crazy the way only a Harmony can be. Then we went back to their place and hung out a little longer, just talking and reminiscing. T'was good fun, all around. And I'm going to have to not wait to see her for another 10 years, because she way rocks, and so too does Scott. But! I know I'm seeing her in April, for the wedding, so there's that.
Now we're back in OKC, ready to resume life as usual.
So, to summarize: Electric Six = awesome.
Drunk people at concerts ≠ awesome.
Cain = awesome.
Kathy = awesome.
Dallas traffic ≠ awesome. In fact, Dallas traffic = aneurysm inducing not awesome.
I need a better superlative than awesome.
